Vigilance reports on bargate probe

The statements of 26 people were so far recorded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has given a status report on the bargate probe to the Advocate General's office.

This is to provide a statement in connection with a petition seeking the registration of a case against Finance Minister K.M. Mani.

The VACB is learnt to have maintained that though the statements of 26 people were so far recorded, no solid proof of Mani receiving any bribe could be obtained.

The reluctance shown by some office-bearers of the Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Association in being drawn into the controversy has been also pointed out by the vigilance.

The Advocate General will be giving a statement to the High Court before the court considers the case on Tuesday.

The Vigilance had earlier informed the court that there was no evidence of Mani accepting a bribe as alleged by Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Association working president Biju Ramesh.

It was CPI MLA V.S.Sunilkumar who had filed the petition in the High Court.
