Is Santosh Hegde doing a ‘BSY’ on CM Siddaramaiah ?
Former Lokayukta warns CM against trying to amend Lokayukta Act
Bengaluru: Launching a tirade against a section of ministers in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s cabinet as well as the state government’s ‘alleged efforts’ to dilute the present Lokyukta Act, former Lokyukta Justice, N. Santosh Hegde on Sunday warned the former not to test the patience of civil society by trying to amend the Lokyukta Act, which is the strongest anti-corruption Act that exists in the country.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of an unit of Dalit Sena at Shikshaka Sadana here, Justice Hegde said, “I do not know, how a person like Mr Siddaramaiah can change so soon. He was the one who was the biggest beneficiary of the Lokayukta Act, but he seems to be under pressure from various quarters within his own party to dilute the Lokayukta Act.”
He added that there was no need to bring any amendment to the Lokyukta Act, as it was one of the finest pieces of modern legal Acts. “I can proudly state that this act is one of the strongest piece of Anti-corruption Acts that exist in the country. This need not be tampered with. If at all Mr Siddarmaiah tries to tamper with this Act, he will surely be earning the wrath of civil society, which is against corruption in the country,” he contended.
Training his guns on the CM, without mincing words, Justice Hegde remarked that the Siddaramaiah led government was no different from the previous BJP government. “Even that government had corrupt ministers and the present cabinet too has them, so how can Mr Siddaramaiah be different from his predecessors? Therefore, I am not ready to say that Mr Siddarmaiah is giving clean administration in the state,” he claimed.
Earlier inaugurating the Dalit Sena, Justice Hegde appealed the masses to try and live within their means instead of craving for a luxurious life style. “Unless we restrict ourselves, no amount of effort by civil society will be sufficient enough to reform society,” he argued.
