Centre wants AIIMS only in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The stage is set for establishment of premier medical institution All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Telangana state soon.
The state government has identified 200-acre sites in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Warangal for the purpose.
However, official sources said the Centre is in favour of setting up AIIMS in Hyderabad owing to logistic issues and availability of world-class infrastructure facilities and manpower.
The Rs 840-crore project will have a 960-bed hospital besides a medical college with 100 seats and is expected to offer 42 super specialty services to people in Telanagna. A Central team is to visit Hyderabad soon to finalise the location for the prestigious project.
It may be mentioned that the Centre had promised to set up AIIMS one each in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh along with few other states in the third phase.
The Centre has also allotted funds for them in the general budget presented to Parliament in July this year.
The then Union health minister Harsh Vardhan had written to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in July and asked the state government to propose three-four locations where about 200 acres of land is available in each site.
The entire expenditure to be incurred for setting up the institute and for its operation and maintenance every year will be borne by the Centre.
The AIIMS will have a 500-bed teaching hospital, 300-bed super-specialty hospital, 100-bed ICU/ trauma centre, 30 bed physical medicine and rehabilitation centre and 30-bed Ayush centres.
The AIIMS type institutes are being established under the Centre's scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’.
