Centre to fund land survey, Hyderabad is a different ball game

Both the state and Centre would share the cost equally

Hyderabad: The Centre gave a green signal for comprehensive land survey in Telangana district. The Union rural development ministry, under its National Land Records Modernisation Programme, has agreed to release Rs 138 crore.

Under this programme, both the state and Centre would share the cost equally. The scientific survey will be taken up from January. However, with respect to the survey in Hyderabad, which has maximum encroachments, MoRD has turned down a request for funds as the city is an urban settlement.

The state government will need to seek help from ministry of urban development for funding for land survey.

The prevailing rate for land survey is considered to be the problem which ranges between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 per sq km.

For the 70,000-sq. km area in seven districts, the required amount would be Rs 400 to Rs 500 crore.

The rural development rates were fixed in 2008 which has to be revised. The department of survey and land settlements has prepared proposals for survey in seven districts covering about 70,000 sq km and sent them to the ministry of rural development under National Land Records Modernisation Programme.
