Woman cons mother, walks away with baby
Chennai: The police are on the look-out for a middle-aged woman who walked away with a 35-day-old baby boy after conning the child’s mother at Kamaraj Nagar in Thirumullaivoyal on Saturday. The baby’s mother, Tamilarasi, 25, wife of John Jebraraj, a van driver, met the middle-aged woman a day earlier at the ESI hospital in Ayanavaram where she, along with her husband, took their child for a check-up.
According to the police, the con woman started talking to the couple saying that she was in the hospital to attend her daughter’s delivery. After collecting the couple’s whereabouts, the woman told John Jebaraj that she was looking for a rented house in Thirumullaivoyal. The couple then told her that they would help her find one. The woman accompanied the couple to Thirumullaivoyal and ‘finalised’ a house on Friday. She then promised to return on Saturday with money to pay the advance.
On Saturday morning the woman returned when John Jebaraj was not there. After talking to Tamilarasi for some time, she said she would wait for John Jebaraj. In-between, when Tamilarasi offered her tea, the woman told her not to make it at home but buy it from a nearby teashop. Tamilarasi handed over her baby boy to the woman and went to fetch tea.
On her return, she was shocked to find that the woman had vanished with the baby, who is not yet named.
The couple later lodged a complaint with the Thirumullaivoyal police. “We are browsing through the CCTV footage of Ayanavaram ESI hospital to see if we can trace the con woman,” the police said.
