Truck rams into bus, two killed
Hyderabad: A driver and a passenger were killed and about 16 persons were injured when a luxury bus was hit by a truck at Pedda Amberpet in Hayathnagar early on Sunday. The bus, belonging to Priyanka Travels, was coming to the city from Vijayawada, with about 48 passengers. The accident occurred at about 4 am.
The truck driver is suspected to have dozed off at the wheel and veered into the path of the bus, leading to the mishap. Police said that the injured had been shifted to a nearby hospital and their condition is stable. Of the injured, six sustained fractures.
The bus was driven by Subbareddy, 45, of Nandigama in Krishna district. The truck loaded with asbestos sheets was going to Vijayawada.
“The truck driver might have fallen asleep, resulting in the mishap. The truck went off the road, jumped the road divider and entered the opposite lane. It went on for about 30 metres and rammed into the bus coming from the opposite direction,” said P. Venkateshwarlu, Inspector Hayathnagar.
The bus driver’s cabin was damaged, resulting in the death of driver Subbareddy and passenger Bhaskar Rao, 48, a native of Nandigama of Krishna district. Bhaskar Rao, a friend of the driver, was sitting with Subbareddy in the front.
“About 16 passengers were injured, of whom six sustained fractures. They were rushed to private hospitals. All of them, except four, have been discharged,” said Mr Venkateshwarlu.
