The name Muhammad has knocked off Oliver from the top spot

Mohammed is now the most common boys name in Britain after a huge surge in popularity last year. Annual data on the UK’s top baby names saw the Islamic name shoot up 27 places to knock Oliver in to second place while Sophia took top spot for girls according to The Guardian.
Royal names continued to fall from favour while names popular in the 1970s such as John, Emma and Sarah have seen a revival. Among the new names on the boys' top 100 list are Omar, Ali, and Ibrahim. For girls too, a same trend was observed. Maryam is the biggest riser for girls, jumping 59 places to number 35. Nur is a new entry at number 29.
Sophia was the top name for baby girls, mirroring its popularity in BabyCentre’s charts in the US, Brazil, Spain and Russia last year. The Baby Centre research also showed that Frozen, Breaking Bad and other television shows and films were sparking naming trends in the UK.
