ISL: Chennaiyin challenge for Blasters

Kochi: After a nightmarish away tie in Goa that resulted in a 0-3 defeat, Kerala Blasters have unpacked their bags and are prepared to finish the group stage of the Indian Super League in the comfort of their home ground. The Blasters have set their sights on the top four and the arrival of weakened league leaders Chennaiyin FC for a 12th round clash here on Sunday gives them hope.

After a seven-match unbeaten run, Chennaiyin suffered a humiliating 0-3 defeat to NorthEast United on Thursday and the long-term injury to talisman Elano Blumer has made them vulnerable.However, the Blasters’ goalkeeper-cum-manager David James is unwilling to take Chennaiyin for granted and is focused on the recovery of his side from their dismal away performance on Wednesday.

“Chennai are a very good team. It is going to be a tough test tomorrow and to think that it will be an easy game will be a big mistake,” said James. The veteran goalkeeper had appeared doubtful with a groin strain midweek, but is confident of starting on Sunday. “For the first time since I became the manager of Kerala Blasters, I have all 29 players available. I am confident my strikers will do well,” said James.


Chennaiyin have replaced injured striker John Stiven Mendoza with veteran Italian defender Alessandro Nesta, and the latter is set to join on December 9.Chennaiyin manager Marco Materazzi said he has retained the squad that toured Guwahati three days back. meaning defenders Bojan The Blasters have an impeccable record at home, James’ side have not conceded in the four matches so far, with two wins and two draws.
