First year HSC classes cut short
Thiruvananthapuram: The students of first-year higher secondary schools in the state syllabus could get only less than two months’ classes before the second term ended in December.
As a result, the teachers have found it difficult to complete the portions prescribed for the second term in time.
This is because first year classes began only by August. Many classes were lost afterwards also due to the training camp for teachers in view of the change in textbooks and improvement examination for Plus-Two classes and valuation camp.
Higher Secondary School Teachers' Association (HSSTA) general secretary Sabuji Varghese told DC that this year admissions had lagged.
As a result, classes began only by the middle of the first term in August. There were allegations that this was to help schools which were allotted Plus Two batches this year, Mr Varghese said.
Improvement examinations, valuation camp and training programmes are part of the academic calendar. There is no way to avoid them, Mr Varghese said.
The only option in such a situation is to ensure that the classes are begun before June 10. With SSLC results coming in April, it was possible for the government to begin classes by June, Mr Varghese said.
