Hyderabad: Telangana Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary on Saturday said he will have to follow set procedure on the petitions seeking the disqualification of seven Congress and TD MLAs before giving his decision.
He refused to disclose the timeframe for pronouncing his judgement. Mr Chary said he will need time to decide on the two BSP MLAs’ plea seeking merger with the TRS. A. Indrakaran Reddy (Nirmal) and Koneru Konappa (Kagaznagar) have asked the Speaker to declare them as TRS MLAs since they have decided to merge their two-member
legislature party with the TRS.
Harish rao justifies suspension of MLAs:
Legislative affairs minister T. Harish Rao said that discussions on many subjects could be held in the Assembly as the government was strict and that suspensions of protesting legislators made the House run well.
He said the government went to the Opposition despite having a majority in the House as it wanted unanimity. Mr Harish also said that TD legislator A. Revanth Reddy wasn’t barred from speaking in the House.
Addressing the press after the last day of the Budget session on Saturday Mr Harish Rao said, “We were also suspended from the House in the past. But this time the House was run well because we were strict. Legislators can’t storm the podium and do whatever they want. If we weren’t strict, would discussions have been possible?”
He was referring to the suspensions of TD and Congress legislators from the Assembly. TD legislators were suspended for a week. Harish Rao also said that all Members from all parties spoke in the Assembly in this session. "Earlier there were Members who could not speak in the House during their entire term. But this time everyone spoke."
Asked about Revanth Reddy being disallowed to speak he said the TD legislator was not barred from speaking at all. TRS has been seeking his apology on different issues at different times. He said the House was never stalled after suspensions.
Mr Harish Rao also stated that this was the first time after 1996 that complete discussions on the Budget were held. "We have majority in the House but we still took a step down and went to the Opposition each time to seek their support. In the past, governments just wanted to adjourn the House and run away. We even amended a resolution according to the wishes of the Opposition even though we didn't need to," he stated.
Mr Harish Rao also said the government had taken up discussions on every matter the Opposition raised and provided them with answers to all their questions.
