New Delhi: The BJP, known as a cow-belt party, has now adopted an aggressive “look east” approach.
While party president Amit Shah is looking at West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to strengthen the party in the Northeast.
The party feels that it is time for the BJP to step out of the cow belt and make inroads into “uncharted territories.”
The BJP’s ongoing membership drive has a special focus on West Bengal and the Northeast region, along with southern states.
The party on Saturday hailed the “moral victory” after it got permission to hold Mr Shah’s rally in Kolkata on Sunday. The saffron party had been accusing the ruling Trinamul of trying to create hurdles in order to stall the rally.
The BJP had accused West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee of being “scared” to allow it to hold the rally as she “doesn’t believe in a democratic and peaceful political fight as her approach is anarchist.”
The party had to approach the Calcutta High Court after it was denied permission by the administrative authorities to hold the rally.
