10 FoBs in 100 days, says GHMC
Hyderabad: As many as 10 foot-over-bridges will come up in the city within 100 days, claimed the GHMC chief.
In the first phase of the project, FOBs will be built at Banjara Hills Road No. 1, Road No. 12, Jubilee Hills checkpost, Lakdikapul Ayodhya Hotel, Gowliguda Imlibun bus bay, Abids Big Bazaar, Koti Women's College and at Afzal Gunj bus stand.
As per the records, Hyderabad’s population has crossed over 1 crore and 3 per cent of the population comprises physically handicapped people who face major difficulties while crossing city roads.
In order to facilitate easy crossing for children, senior citizens and others, at least 50 FOBs have been proposed by the GHMC.
These FOBs will be erected with lifts and with latest technology. The consultants have been instructed to erect these FOBs within three months.
Officials of GHMC, the Water Board and the electricity department have also been asked to study the feasibility of reopening sub-ways at Sultan Bazaar and RTC crossroads.
Express corridors
To provide better connectivity and adopt an advanced transport system, the GHMC is in the process of identifying the express corridors in the city.
Somesh Kumar, the GHMC commissioner said, close to six express corridors will be identified in the areas with dense traffic. The proposals will be sent to the government for approval.
The express corridors will be designed in such a manner that they ease traffic without signals. The design will be discussed in the next meeting with the government.
