On the rise: Kidambi Srikanth jumps to No 8 in the world

Indian shuttler's recent performance in events have helped climb places in world ranking
New Delhi: Rising Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth jumped two places to achieve his career-best eighth position in the men’s singles category of the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.
Just after beating two-time Olympic gold medallist Lin Dan in China Open, 21-year-old Srikanth made it to the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open. Thus, riding on his recent performances, he climbed up two places in the ranking table to be the lone Indian in the top-10 of men’s singles.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap, meanwhile, also gained a position to be at 16th spot. Two other male Indian shuttlers Sourabh Varma and Anand Pawar moved up two and seven places, respectively to be at 35th and 43rd.
H.S. Prannoy (26th), B Sai Praneeth (41st) and R.M.V. Guru Sai Dutt (42nd) maintained their respective positions.In the women’s singles list, Saina Nehwal has remained at fourth position, even as two-time World Championships bronze medallist P.V. Sindhu dropped a place to go out of the top 10.
She is currently at the 11th spot in the world. In women’s doubles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa slipped to 20th position.There are no Indians in the top 25 list in either men’s or mixed doubles category.
