DMK councillors seek probe against Mayor
Chennai: A group of opposition DMK councillors and its advocate wing members led by R. Girirajan on Thursday submitted petitions to the state top brass seeking investigation against Chennai mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy alleging that he was involved in ‘kangaroo courts’.In the complaint petition to home secretary Apurva Varma and secretary to municipal administration K. Phanindra Reddy, the DMK members alleged that Duraisamy was conducting “kangaroo courts misusing his mayoral post and interfering in to civil disputes”.
“There are audio clips and witnesses exposing Duraisamy. The mayor has intimidated an advocate in connection with a land dispute. There are officers to look into complaints related to land grabs and encroachments, mayor’s personal interference is fishy and we need the issue to be probed in detail,” said DMK floor leader in the city corporation Subash Chandra Bose. They have also handed over the complaint to city police commissioner and state DGP seeking action.
Meanwhile Ripon Building sources said that one Mr V. Vijayan and his wife recently handed over a petition to mayor during a grievance meet at mayor chamber. The complainant said that there was an encroachment adjacent to his plot and asked mayor to direct corporation officials to clear it. The mayor through the complainant phone asked the neighbours to settle the issue within them, but the conversation has been recorded and is now politically utilised, sources said.
“Despite the corporation assessors conforming encroachment in my Maduravoyal plot it is not being removed, hence I was forced to submit a petition on the encroachment to mayor,” Vijayan said.
