AIADMK MPs protest in Lok Sabha over dam row
NEW DELHI: RSP MP N.K. Premachandran on Thursday demanded the intervention of the Centre in the issue of raising the level of Mullaiperiyar dam during a debate in Lok Sabha, leading to strong protests from AIADMK members.
“Madam, yesterday in Kerala, we had an all party meeting convened by the Chief Minister in which the BJP was also present where almost all the parties have unanimously resolved and sought the intervention of Centre in respect of the Mullaiperiyar dam issue,” he said, raising the issue during the zero hour.
As soon as Mr Premachandran raised the issue, AIADMK MPs led by their floor leader P. Venugopal were on their feet and tried to disrupt the proceedings. The RSP MP said even if the water level is raised, it should be done only under the supervison.
