AAP plans Rs 20,000 per plate lunch for funds
Mumbai: To boost its war chest, the Aam Aadmi Party will host a fundraising lunch in the national capital on November 30. This will be second such initiative by the party, after it hosted a fundraising dinner featuring its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in Mumbai on Thursday.
The lunch will be hosted by Mr Kejriwal along with other senior party leaders, including Manish Sisodia, Ashutosh and Pankaj Gupta.
The party chief will host 125 traders for an Rs 20,000-per-plate lunch at a popular resto-bar in Connaught Place on Sunday.
Sources said that the party hopes to raise Rs 40 to Rs 50 lakh through this fundraising lunch. “The traders are in favour of an AAP government coming to power in Delhi and are expected to donate generously at the event. The starting price per plate will be Rs 20,000, but can go up according to the will of an individual trader. Some 125 traders belonging to different parts of the city will attend the fundraiser,” the convenor of the AAP trade wing, Mr Brijesh Goyal, said.
He added that the party will host more such fundraising events in the city. Like Mumbai and then Delhi, the AAP also plans to host such fundraising campaigns in other cities such as Bengaluru and Kolkata.
The first fundraiser was organised strategically by the AAP in Mumbai, as Maharshtra has been the highest contributor in online donations.
The AAP has recorded a sudden surge in its online donations since last few days.
According to the AAP website, the party registered Rs 14.42 lakh in online donations on November 25, which rose to Rs 28.82 lakh on November 26 the AAP’s second anniversary.
Party leaders attributed the record donations on Wednesday to the AAP’s successful online drive exhorting people to donate money in the figure of Rs 2,611, as the party was founded on the day two years ago.
