Bengaluru: The Congress party has struck on an innovative formula which many others may not have thought of to keep the discontent over the board and corporation appointments under check. As per this formula, the newly appointed chiefs of state run boards and corporations will only have an 18-month tenure. This was disclosed by none other than Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr G. Parameshwar while interacting with reporters here on Thursday.
Dr Parameshwar said that after 18 months, other aspirants would be given a chance and the new list of candidates for these boards and corporations would be drawn up in February itself. Nearly four days after the crucial appointments were made, the KPCC president shared some statistics on the appointments: In all, chairmen were appointed to 93 boards and corporations. “We have some technical problems in four or five corporations which will be set right in a couple of days,” he said.
He did not miss a chance to thank Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is the appointing authority for these organisations. The Congress party had received a whopping 10,000 applications seeking nomination to the board posts. “We selected those who showed 100 per cent commitment to the party. Very soon, we will fill 800 director posts in these corporations.
“While appointing directors, we will give weightage to those who have the backing of MLAs and who contested the assembly elections on party tickets,” Dr Parameshwar said. The newly appointed chairmen should work hard to bring a good name to the party, Parameshwar added.
