Officer delayed registering FIR in relation to the assault

Chennai: Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), T. Nagar range, R. Vijayaraghavan, was on Thursday transferred out of his jurisdiction for reportedly delaying action against Rich India Ltd employees and its owner in relation to the assault against the PT instructor of Loyola matriculation higher secondary school in Kodambakkam.

The officer is said to have sat on the complaint by the school authorities and delayed registering FIR. Sources said the officer was transferred to the vacancy reserve at DGP’s office.

An order issued from the office of DGP Ashok Kumar stated that S. Vijayaraghavan, the assistant commissioner of police, T. Nagar, was transferred on administrative grounds and kept in vacancy reserve. The order further stated that if the officer entered on medical leave, he should be referred to the medical board without waiting for any instructions.

The transfer orders come exactly a week after the incident took place and the arrest of 27 persons belonging to Rich India Pvt Ltd for trespassing and assaulting the PT instructor, S. Baskar Raj.

On November 20, a mob of around 30 persons attacked the PT instructor of Loyola school for allegedly meting out corporal punishment to a class 8 boy there. While the Kodambakkam police arrested 27 persons so far, the proprietor, D. Arulanandhu, is absconding after the incident.

Arulanandhu is a real estate promoter and runs an IAS academy in Kodambakkam. He was one of the accused in the magnetic bed scam in 2003, the police said.
