Woman held for blackmailing
Hyderabad: The police arrested a woman for allegedly blackmailing the management of Xenia Hospitals in ECIL on Thursday. The woman demanded money from the management alleging that she was photographed nude earlier when she was admitted in the hospital.
With an intention to extort money, she threatened to publicise the issue. The hospital authorities approached the police who arrested her. Cops said she resorted to blackmail due to financial constraints and it was just a trick played by her.
The accused was identified as Sai Kumari, 27, wife of Govardhan. She is a resident of Creative Home Apartments in Kamala Nagar under the Kushaiguda police station limits.
According to the Kushaiguda police, Sai Kumari, who earlier was into fashion designing, set up a shop, which ran into losses.
Depressed over her financial condition, in January she attempted suicide by consuming poison. She was rushed to the Xenia Hospitals for treatment and was discharged. Then she went to Ongole district and stayed there for a while.
Recently, her mother died and the accused returned to the city after eight months. Soon after her return, she started alleging that Mr Prasad, the CEO of the hospital, clicked her picture in the operation theatre when she was admitted. However the hospital authorities denied it.
“She started threatening the management with dire consequences and started blackmailing tactics. Further she demanded Rs 50 lakh to resolve the issue. Since a month she has been mounting pressure on the authorities to pay her money immediately,” said N. Venkataramana, Inspector Kushaiguda.
The hospital authorities informed the police and on their suggestion recorded the accused when she threatened and blackmailed them. The evidence was further submitted to the police.
Based on a complaint, the cops booked a case under sections 448 (Punishment for house-trespass), 389 (Putting person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and started investigation.
The accused was arrested and remanded. “During investigation it was revealed that due to financial constraint she wanted to extort money and chose to blackmail the authorities.” said Mr Venkataramana.
