Comedy Central back on air

The Supreme Court stayed Delhi High court's decision directing the channel to go off air

Mumbai: Two of the channel's shows — Stand Up Club and Popcorn came under the scrutiny of India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last year for showing content that was considered indecent. The High Court had on November 24 upheld a 10-day ban imposed on Comedy Central by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for airing “vulgar” and “offensive” content during May and July 2012. Since the channel had already undergone a ban for four days earlier, it was ordered to undergo the remaining six days now.

However, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Delhi high court’s decision directing Comedy Central to go off air for six days starting 12.01am on 26 November. Confirming the same, Sujeet Jain, Group General Counsel - Viacom18 Media Pvt said, " The Honourable Supreme Court today stayed the Delhi High Court order on the suspension of the channel, Comedy Central. We are happy to announce that the channel will resume broadcast this evening".
