Juan Carlos Ferrero defeated Pat Cash in legends encounter to give Delhi winning start
New Delhi: Juan Carlos Ferrero gave Delhi Dreams a winning start against Pune Marathas in the final of the inaugural Champions Tennis League at the RK Khanna Stadium here on Wednesday, shading former Wilmbledon champion Pat Cash 6-3 in the 25-minute legends’ encounter.
In the mixed double match, Jelena Jankovic and Sanam Singh edged past Pune’s Agnieszka Radwanska and Marcos Baghdatis 6-5 (3) to give Delhi a 11-9 lead in the five-match final.
Ferrero, the most successful senior player in the event, looked comfortable while Cash was more attacking in the initial stage of the opener. Both players held serve to tie the score at 2-2. In the fifth game former world No.1 Ferrero reeled off four straight points to take the lead.
The Delhi player, relying on his strong return, then broke the Australian in the sixth game as Cash could not control his backhand errors.
