Former Congress leader G K Vasan unveils new party flag
Chennai: Tamil Nadu strongman and former Union Minister G K Vasan has unveiled the flag of his recently formed party, after quitting the Congress earlier this month.
"Today we have launched flag for our new party. This is a significant milestone, which will mark the beginning of a change in Tamil Nadu politics. We are confident that this flag will fly very high in Tamil Nadu," Vasan said on Wednesday.
"This is a tri colour flag with the pictures of Kumarasami Kamaraj and Govindaswamy Karuppiah Moopanar. The Saffron is for sacrifice, white for peace and green for prosperity," he added.
He said the breakaway party's name will be announced on Friday.
"We have already approached the Central Election Committee, New Delhi and have registered the party's name with all the rules and norms prescribed by the Central Election Commission of India. On 28th, Friday, in the Mehmood Public meeting in Trichy, we will announce the name of the new party," said Vasan.
After an association of 14 years with the Congress, Vasan on November 3 decided to break away and form a new party, stating his dissatisfaction with decisions taken on important issues.
