Ponnala Lakshmaiah bought Dalit land, Telangana to take it back
Hyderabad: Former minister and Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah is to be booked for purchasing assigned lands in Warangal district, belonging to Dalits, and thereby violating the Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfer) Act.
The 8.3-acre of assigned land that is allegedly in the illegal possession of the Lakshmaiah-promoted Tirumala Hatcheries will be recovered. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday action would be taken as per the law, adding that as much as 1.90 lakh acre of assigned lands were encroached upon in the state.
The government has also agreed to constitute a House Committee to probe encroachment of assigned, Wakf, endowments and other classified lands. Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday made statements on the illegal possession of lands by Mr Lakshmaiah under Rule 74 of the Assembly Rules.
Mr Harish Rao said that Mr Lakshmaiah had prima facie violated the Assigned Lands Act and was liable to serve imprisonment up to six months.
