Government officials put feet up on no-meeting day
AP CS will review the field visits of employees
Hyderabad: The first of the Andhra Pradesh government’s “no-meeting” days on Wednesday was like a paid holiday at the AP Secretariat here.
AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had ordained last week that no meetings should be scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays. All secretaries and heads of departments would tour the districts and inspect projects under their charge.
The first day of no meetings, as it turned out, was leisurely. Only a few secretaries and HoDs went out on field visits. The others, after spending some time at the office, went back home.
The atmosphere was relaxed with babus not having to prep and rush for meetings. An added advantage was that the Chief Minister is away on his six-day tour of Japan. With some top ministers and officials also accompanying him, the number of visitors at the Secretariat was relatively small.
An officer in the finance department said that officials who do not have projects can visit their department works in the districts. One senior officer commented, “The CM is not in the city, so no meeting day has become like a paid holiday.”
However, those who played hookey could face a spot of bother. AP chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao has decided to review field visits of secretaries and HoDs at the next meeting. He sent a circular to all departments on Wednesday seeking information on officers who actually went out on field visits.
