CBI Bill passed in Lok Sabha

Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the legislative proposal on appointment of CBI director

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the legislative proposal on appointment of CBI director with division of votes. The Opposition sought division of votes after their contentions were rejected by the government.

The Opposition criticised the legislation on the grounds that the government wanted to go ahead with the appointment of the CBI director even if the member in the search panel from the Opposition was absent.

“Due to the stubborn attitude of this government in not giving the position of the Leader of Opposition, they are bringing a number of legislative proposals. This amounts to giving something by one hand and taking it away by the other hand,” said Mr Kharge.

Union minister Jitendra Singh rejected the contention of the Opposition, saying, “There could be instances when the Prime Minister or the Chief Justice of India may not be available for such a meeting due to any pressing reason. The government has no ulterior motives.”
