Better, together - celeb couples talk about when their partner helped them through a crisis
The year 2010 was an unforgettable year for David Beckham. The midfielder, who was injured while playing for AC Milan in the months leading up to the 2010 World Cup finals, had to drop out of the England team after suffering an injury. In a never-before seen interview, which is part of the upcoming BBC documentary titled David Beckham Into the Unknown, he speaks about how his wife Victoria Beckham helped him through the tough phase.
In fact, he even went on record to say, “That was one of the points when I knew I had a wife that really understood me and really understood why I was doing it.” While the beginning of a relationship may mirror what romantic novels may preach, it is only when you hit a roadblock that you know its true worth. We asked celebrity couples about that one moment in their relationship when they felt that their partner was there for them:
Ripu Daman Handa on his girlfriend Shivangi Verma:
I didn’t have a proper job before Masterchef happened and Shivangi’s family wasn’t convinced about our relationship and whether I would be able to bear our expenses after marriage. Shivangi knew how passionate I am about cooking and encouraged me to participate in Masterchef. I ended up winning the show and today I have my own restaurant. Without Shivangi’s support I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this and convince her family to let us marry.
Hiten Tejwani on his wife Gauri Pradhan:
For me, it wasn’t just one moment or one incident that defined my relationship with Gauri. It was a series of events where I knew that she would always be there for me. Call it sixth sense, or whatever, I knew that I wanted to be with her. We have that kind of understanding between us and we know that we are there for each other.
Debina Bonnerjee on her husband Gurmeet Choudhary:
Guru (Gurmeet) is a very supportive partner who is always there for me. But one moment that really stands out is when my father underwent an open-heart surgery. It was a trying time. During this phase, Guru became my anchor.
Nakuul Mehta on his wife Jankee Parekh:
You venture into a new relationship enthusiastically, but it is only during your tough times that you realise the strength of a relationship. This was during my initial days when I had ventured into films. The film didn’t do well at the box office and I didn’t receive the kind of offers I was looking for. I wanted to do something that justified my talent. It was then that I decided to take up theatre for some time.
It was a tough choice since it isn’t economically viable. But Jankee stood by me at a time when my loved ones weren’t convinced. Jankee had this blind belief in me, not for a second did she doubt me or question me about our future. She stayed with me even after knowing that I may not be well off during that phase. I guess I am lucky to have someone as supportive as Jankee stand by me during that phase. By then you obviously know, that they are going to be there for you, come what may.
