Indian Navy men face action for INS Sindhuratna fire
New Delhi: Seven naval officers are facing disciplinary action, including a possible court martial, after the naval board of inquiry (BoI) report into the INS Sindhuratna submarine accident in February this year found them “culpable of various acts of omissions and commissions”.
Defence minister Manohar Parrikar told Parliament, “The BoI report in case of INS Sindhuratna has found seven officers culpable of various acts of omissions and commissions. Disciplinary action against these officers has been initiated at the Western Naval Command headquarters.”
There had been an incident of fire on board the submarine on February 26 this year in which two officers lost their lives and then Navy Chief Admiral D.K. Joshi had resigned immediately.
The ministry of defence informed Parliament that the BoI report into another accident involving the explosion in the INS Sindhurakshak submarine in August last year (that had led to its destruction) has also been submitted to the naval headquarters but that the examination of the BoI report in this case had not been completed.
