Mumbai: A Hindi film, Tara, directed by filmmaker Kumar Raj, that was released a few months ago, will now be part of the Oscars under the Foreign Language Film category. But, the film was sent by the Togo government as the presenter and the partner of Tara is from Togo, West Africa.
The movie deals with the life of under-privileged women in India and according to reports it is a drama that revolves around a gypsy who fights for her rights. The film that stars actress Rekha Rana in the lead role was part of many other film festivals before it was finally chosen to represent Togo at the Oscars.
According to reports, the film ran for 50 weeks in a small theatre and it did not see the usual grand release that many Hindi films do.
