Union HRD minister Smriti Irani will be President of India one day, predicts her astrologer

New Delhi: Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani ridiculed the media after a section of it reported about her visit, with her husband Zubin Irani, to Karoi village in Rajasthan, to meet an astrologer.

When asked to react about the incident, Ms Irani said, “I realise that I contribute to your TRPs and I am glad I could be of help. What I do in my personal life doesn’t come under purview of the media. I appreciate your efforts to keep me in the headlines.”

She was reportedly told by the astrologer, Pandit Nathulal Vyas, on Sunday that she is destined to become the President of India in future. The same astrologer had reportedly also predicted a bright career and big post for Ms Irani in her career before she became a minister.

The meeting came in for criticism from her detractors as JD(U) leader Ali Anwar quipped, “The next time I meet her, I will recite this couplet: Haathon ki lakeeron par itna na aitbaar ka-riye / naseeb unka bhi hota hai jinke haath nahi hote. (Please do not have so much faith on the lines of your hands / People who do not have hands also have fate). It is not right that the person who should be campaigning against superstitions, the same education minister is spreading myths.”
