Fr Chavara established the first church in Maannanam
The team will be led by Father James Madathikandathil, the vice-postulator of the naming procedures of Father Chavara.
Thiruvananthapuram: SC/ST Service Society president A.P. Kakkad has said that Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, who worked for the uplift of the downtrodden long before Sree Narayana Guru or Ayyankali or Ambedkar, was the country’s first renaissance leader.
He said that Fr Chavara established the first church in Maannanam for ‘paraya’ and ‘pulaya’ people in 1831, a time when it was normal to pour lead into the ears of low-caste people who listened to vedas and mantras.
