5-kilogram bomb found in Assam-bound train

Security has been beefed up at the Guwahati railway station

New Delhi: The NIA on Monday said an unclaimed IED made of high grade TNT explosive weighing around 5 kilogram along with other explosive material was recovered by the Assam police and NIA sleuths from the Alipurduar (West Bengal)-Kamakhya (Guwahati) Intercity Express. “No one has been arrested so far,” police said.

The IED covered with a towel was found in a bag near the toilet in the fourth compartment of the train.

NIA sources said further probe is on to ascertain which group or terror outfit may be behind the plan to strike at the top cop meet. Security has been beefed up at the Guwahati railway station and other vital installations.

Meanwhile, the IB has also warned that the outlawed ULFA is planning to target BJP leaders and non-Assamese workers. The Centre has alerted the Assam Police.
