Powerful IED recovered in Manipur ahead of PM visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Manipur on November 30
Imphal: A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 4 kg was recovered from the side of a road by a road opening party of 2/5 Gorkha Rifles (GR) in Manipur's Bishenpur district, the police said on Tuesday.
The security personnel detected the bomb at Keinou area, about 30 km south of here, on Monday and immediately informed the bomb disposal team at Imphal who rushed to the spot and exploded it, the police said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Manipur on November 30 to attend the closing ceremony of the ongoing 'Sangai Manipur Tourism Festival', official sources said on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony, the biggest tourism festival named after 'Sangai', the rare brow-antlered deer, available only in Keibul Lamjao national park in state's Bishenpur district, sources said.
During his hour-long stay here, Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for a sports university in the state, sources said. After the function, he will fly to Nagaland where he would inaugurate Hornbill Festival.
