80 per cent trapped bureaucrats are top officials: ACB
Karimnagar: On an average 80 per cent of the public servants who were trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting bribes from the public were found to be executive officers. 37 officials were arrested for bribery in the district from January 1 till date.
According to ACB sleuths, for the first time, executive gazetted officers accounted for about 80% of the public servants who were arrested for taking bribes. For example, G. Aparna Reddy, mandal revenue inspector of Illanthakunta was held while accepting Rs 25,000 from a village servant for entering details of his land in revenue records on November 20. Earlier, district medical and health officer Dr K. Balu was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a doctor for canceling his deputation orders in Karimnagar on November 17. An assistant conservator of forests (West Division), an assistant divisional engineer of the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited, two sub-treasury officers, three MRIs and four tahsildars were caught red-handed by the ACB in 2014.
