Martin Scorsese's editor to work on 'Bombay Velvet' international cut
Mumbai: After director Anurag Kashyap locked in May 15, 2015 as the release date for his most ambitious project yet, we have now learnt that the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Bombay Velvet’ will be getting an international release as well.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the film’s international cut will be edited in Los Angeles by Academy award-winning film editor Thelma Colbert Shoonmaker.
Shoonmaker has worked with Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese on a variety of films including ‘Raging Bull’, ‘The Departed’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and ‘Goodfellas’.
Scorsese is one of Kashyap’s favourite directors and their proximity was instrumental on getting Thelma’s thumbs up for the project.
A source was quoted as saying, “It was crucial for Bombay Velvet to have two versions as it is going to have the widest worldwide release for a Hindi film ever with systematic releases planned in Europe over the summer. The international version is being edited by Schoonmaker. The decision was taken as the team felt that someone of her stature could bring in a truly refreshing and global perspective to Anurag’s period love story. Both LA and Mumbai are in constant touch.”
The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar and is slated to release next year.
