Villagers in West Bengal protest over unnatural death of 17-year old girl in Bhutan
Jalpaiguri, West Bengal: Protesters turned violent at Indo-Bhutan border check post over the unnatural death of a 17-year-old girl in Bhutan. The girl hailed from West Bengal.
Violence erupted when Bhutan police surrendered the girl dead body to the family members without explaining the cause of death.
"According to report a girl who used to work as a maid in Bhutan died. Later the girl family was informed about her death and her body was handed over, following which the situation is tense," said Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jalpaiguri, Kunal Agarwal.
The villagers blocked the Chamurchi Indo-Bhutan border check post in Jalpaiguri district.
Meanwhile, the girl's family has alleged that she was raped and murdered.
Symuta Lohar used to work as a domestic help at a professor house in Bhutan from the past few years.
