Petrol bunks try luring customers, offer freebies

Sales across petrol bunks have dipped by 3 to 5 percent in the recent months

Hyderabad: Many petrol bunks across the twin cities are offering freebies on purchases of Rs 1000 and more in a bid to increase sales. Right from face washes, lotions to Vogue magazine, a host of things are on offer. Interestingly, the scenario is likely to catch up with other petrol bunks too before aggressive ones snatch away customers.

The fact that sales across petrol bunks (petrol and diesel) have dipped by 3 to 5 percent in the recent months, has resulted in aggressive marketing.

Petrol bunks are the latest to join the aggressive race of luring customers and building loyalty towards the outlet.

“Each day we have hundreds of customers but repeat customers are very few. People tend to stop at any petrol bunk on their route, depending on factors like balance fuel, road traffic near the petrol bunk, easy approach and queue at the petrol bunk. Some petrol bunks have started aggressive attempts to attract consumers with offers,” said Rajendra, a sales person at a petrol bunk in Jubilee Hills.

Bunk workers, meanwhile, have been asked to spot regular customers who make big purchases and try to retain them with better service.

“Once customers receive a freebie along with a request to visit a particular petrol station again, they tend to return to them. We started getting customers citing a freebie being given at other bunks and within a day, we too made similar arrangements. No one can afford to lose big customers as petrol bunks tend to have less loyalty and sales vary vastly on a day to day basis,” said another salesperson from a bunk at Begumpet.
