Parks most neglected in Karimnagar
Poor maintenance, lack of play equipment plague parks
Karimnagar: Poor maintenance, coupled with lack of infrastructure, is plaguing all the five parks in Karimnagar city.
Officials have been neglecting the beautification works like landscaping, gardening, watering of plants and upkeep of the parks for the last few years. Moreover, children’s play equipment are also not in proper condition in these parks. The Ujwala Park in the city has become a haven for objectionable activities by youth.
Authorities of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation identified 44 open spaces to develop them as parks in the city. But, a majority of them are yet to be given shape to provide pleasant environment and amusement to children and senior citizens. The five parks located in different parts of the city have many other issues to be resolved, thanks to the indifferent attitude of the concerned authorities.
U. Surender, a civil contractor, said the park situated in the Bank Colony in division number 50 was crying for attention of the authorities. “The park has no benches for senior citizens, equipment for children, lighting system. So none dares to visit the park,” said Surendar.
“Due to lack of Sulabh complexes and drinking water taps, walkers are witnessing many hardships in parks. At the same time, people living nearby the parks drop waste and litter the parks. Most of the parks are not cleaned everyday,” pointed out D. Ram Reddy, secretary of Sri Raja Rajeshwara Degree College Walkers’ Association.
A. Laxminarayana, vice-president of Dr. Ambedkar Stadium Walkers’ Association, said senior citizens were facing breathing problem due to dust on the jogging tracks and plying of vehicles near the stadium.
When asked, a senior official of KMC said that an enquiry was being carried out to explore steps to improve parks.
