Mulayam began adopting villages in 1990

Lucknow: A day after he asked a UP minister to emulate the Modi model of development, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of copying his scheme of adopting villages and building toilets.
“Mr Modi is now talking about adopting villages but I began adopting villages in 1990. I also initiated construction of toilets in 1990. The PM is copying me,” he said. An an apparent rebuff to his critics the SP supremo said that state money was not spent on his birthday celebrations and added that “those commenting on the issue were ignorant about facts.”
Mr Yadav’s clarification came after Governor Ram Naik said that there is a feeling among the people that so much expenditure should not have been made.
