It’s talaq for MIM, says V Hanumantha Rao

The Congress has decided to say talaq (divorce) to the MIM

Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh told the media after participating in the Congress Minority Convention on Sunday that the MIM was trying to help the BJP in various ways.

He said that the possibility of MIM contesting the Delhi polls will only indirectly help the BJP and cited the example of the party abstaining from the vote of confidence in the Maharashtra Assembly.

Mr Digvijay Singh said the Congress will go it alone in the ensuing GHMC polls and fight against communal parties. Leaders speaking at the convention attacked the MIM for extending outright support to the TRS government in the state, and accused it of backstabbing the Congress.

Senior MP V Hanumantha Rao, said the Congress has decided to say ‘talaq’ (divorce) to the MIM.

On other issues, the former minister, Shabbir Ali, deputy leader of the Congress in the Council, demanded that the TRS government implement its poll promise of 12 per cent quota to Muslim minorities without any delay.

“It is difficult to implement the quota as there is a SC ruling capping the reservation, but the TRS promised to enhance it,” Mr Ali said.

What steps has the Chief Minister taken to implement the promise,” asked Mr Shabbir Ali.

The former Union Minister, Salman Khurshid, speaking at the convention said that it was the Congress that for the first time in the country had introduced 4 per cent reservations for Muslims and implemented it.

“This was done during the regime of Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and we are happy to see many Muslims youth got jobs after availing of the special quota,” Mr Khurshid observed.

The Congress leaders have promised to take up all the issues concerning the minorities, at all available platforms, and fight it out to bring justice to one of the most economically backward communities in the country.
