Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says 2015 budget to be big bang

Finance minister envisaged GDP growth would cross six per cent in 2015-16

New Delhi: A “whole set of second generation reforms” will be unveiled in the next Budget, finance minister Arun Jaitely said on Sunday, promising “a lot of exciting times ahead”.

The country needs “a larger opening out in more sectors” and requires stability of policy and tax regimes, besides a “reasonable” cost of capital, the minister said. Looking ahead, he envisaged GDP growth would cross six per cent in 2015-16 once the effect of all the steps proposed kicks in. From there on, “we are going to take off,” he said.

Asked about the broad direction of the 2015-16 Budget, Mr Jaitley said: “There is a whole set of second generation refor-ms. And there is a whole set of reforms which have arisen because some undoing is required. The coal ordinance is one undoing, allocation of natural reso-urces is another.”
