Blame game over Afzal Guru hanging begins in Jammu & Kashmir
It has turned out to be a major issue in the campaigning for J&K assembly polls
SRINAGAR: The hanging of Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru has turned out to be a major issue in the campaigning for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections with the National Conference and Peoples’ Democratic Party trying to project each other as a villain before the people.
While some smaller political groups are blaming both for the execution, the Congress which was in power in Delhi when Guru was sent to the gallows in Tihar jail, is maintaining silence for obvious reasons.
PDP’s CM candidate, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, speaking at an election rally in Bandipore which is scheduled to go to the polls in the first of the five phases on Tuesday, termed Afzal Guru’s hanging “inhuman” and said the NC and the Congress were responsible for his death.
Huge cache of arms seized:
The Army along with the Jammu and Kashmir police’s special operations group on Sunday seized huge consignments of weapons smuggled into the state from across the Line of Control.
These weapons were ment to create disturbance during the upco-ming State Assembly elections. The arms seized included 18 AK 47 and one sniper rifles, seven pistols, grenade launchers, grenades.
A statement issued by the Srinagar-based 15 (Chinar) Corps of the Army said that the weapons and ammunition were captured in two different operations carried out along the de facto border and in the hinterland.
