Directorate of Technical Education fails to update its website
KOCHI: It’s titled Directorate of Technical Education that commands and facilitates the growth of technical education in the state, including that of engineering colleges and polytechnics, and spur the creative thinking of technology students. But it seems the directorate is neither tech-savvy nor up-to-date in managing its affairs.
This is evident on its website which is sought by students of engineering colleges to get valuable information. Even one month after she quit as the Director of Technical Education (DTE), Dr J. Letha is still the DTE, as per the information available on the website.
In reality, Dr K. Vijyakumar, Principal of Government Engineering College, Thrissur, has been given the full additional charge of DTE, since Dr Letha quit the post to become the Vice-Chancellor of Cusat.
It was on October 20 that Dr Letha assumed the office of the VC, but her photo as well as elaborate profile is available on the website of the DTE while there is no mention of the acting DTE.
Interestingly, while the Cusat website also has given the profile of the new Vice-Chancellor Dr Letha, it has omitted the crucial details of her tenure in the previous posts, including as DTE and as Principal of College of Engineering, Trivandrum.
There have been allegations that she didn’t have ten years’ experience as university professor or ten years of experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organization, as stipulated by the UGC.
