CPM logo a laughing stock for netizens
Kochi: At a time when the CPM is trying hard to keep its influential party status in the country, the logo of the 21st party congress to be held in Visakhapatnam in April next year has become a laughing stock for netizens.
The logo has an uncanny resemblance to a sinking ship and its photoshopped images are doing the rounds on Facebook.
The logo was released on November 19 at M B Bhavan in Hyderabad by CPM politburo member B.V. Raghavulu. It was designed by Alappuzha-based artist R. Jayakumar.
The animated video posted on YouTube shows red volunteers saluting the red flag on board a shipping vessel. The official video of the party congress was also released on social media. After the release, the logo went viral on Facebook.
The followers of CPM and its rivals have started a logo war making claims and counterclaims on the theme. Many netizens who shared the logo have started mocking at the party’s current status. “I haven’t seen such a sensible logo design in recent history.
A sinking ship, persons on board raising SOS alerts by showing red flags who are getting ready to jump from the ship,” a comment posted by an unidentified user has gone viral on Facebook.
Anti-communist fan pages are promoting the images on the social media. BJP supporters, meanwhile, rubbed salt into the wound by posting the picture of Titanic along with N.N. Pillai's epic dialogue from the movie ‘Godfather’ ('keri vada makkale' Come on board children).
An ardent CPM sympathiser claimed that the logo symbolised a ship sailing against the current. The CPM says that the logo was designed keeping in mind the port city of Visakhapatnam and the Telangana struggle.
