CM, ministers to check road repairs
Hyderabad: The state government has decided to re carpet almost 12,039 km stretch of BT roads and strengthen 20,000 km of untarred roads in the state.
“A state’s progress depends on rural connectivity and good roads. The government will give top priority to repairs and laying of roads,” said K.T. Rama Rao, IT and panchayat raj minister.
He and transport minister Mahender Reddy reviewed the status of rural roads and said the government had called for tenders for 12,039 km BT roads, giving top priority to quality and time-bound completion.
After the Assembly session is over, the Chief Minister and other ministers will personally visit the road repair sites and take stringent action against anyone found guilty of irregularities.
“No work will be given to any blacklisted contractors. And there is no question of compromise on the quality of roads. Officials and contractors will be held responsible for the quality and specifications of the roads,” said Mr Rama Rao. The state government released pending bills worth Rs 153 crore to contractors.
