Andhra Pradesh to hike taxes soon
Entry tax at border check-posts, beer price up by Rs 5
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to increase the Stamps and Registration fee by 1 per cent and introduce 2 per cent entry tax at all border check-posts. The state government also decided to increase beer price by Rs 5.
The government has decided to introduce 12.5 per cent entry tax on cement and steel. Local manufacturers of cement and steel are paying 14.5 per cent VAT to the government.
But some companies are just paying 2 per cent central sales tax, and selling their products in other states. Local firms complained to the government that they are forced to pay 14.5 per cent VAT, though some companies pay only 2 per cent CST and sell their products in other states.
As a result, the government decided to introduce 12.5 per cent entry tax on cement and steel to protect the interests of local manufacturers. The AP government has engaged KPMG consultants to suggest ways to increase the non-tax revenue. The government will pay KPMG Rs 50 lakh per year for this.
The finance department has sent the file to CM N. Chandrababu Naidu for his approval. The file is pending with the CM for his signature.
