New campaign seeks new word for 'female masturbation'
London: A new campaign has been recently launched in order to find a term for "female masturbation," it has been revealed.
The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), a national not-for-profit group that "works for an open, positive view of sex and relationship issues," wants women to have their own word for the solo sex act, in the belief that it will bring about more open discussion of a taboo subject, the Mirror reported.
So far, the group has already received over 1,000 suggestions, whittling them down to a shortlist of 34 that includes "klittra," "pulla" and "selfa." And in June 2015, the RFSU's committee will organise the final vote to choose the new name.
The RFSU stated that a good word can answer questions and puncture the myths and a good word can be used and understood by many without feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable.
They further concluded that when it comes to masturbation, people mostly think about just men doing it and we don't think of it as common for women.
