No 'special treatment' for jailed Oscar Pistorius on 28th birthday
Johannesburg: Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius, who is serving a five-year prison sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, has turned 28 and is expected to receive no special treatment.
The department of correctional services states that he is entitled to five one-hour-long visits per month, and may receive cards for special occasions.
According to Piet du Plessis, a Johannesburg-based lawyer, Pistorius's privileges are very limited as he has just started serving his term. He said that his birthday wouldn't be a happy one as state prosecutors are appealing his conviction by calling it as 'shockingly light'. Pistorius, known as blade runner has been placed in the hospital ward of the prison, Sport24 reported.
Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide over the killing of his girlfriend, escaping a harsher murder conviction.
