Kottayam: Hundreds of people flocked to the tomb of Fr Chavara Kuriakose Elias at the St Joseph’s Church in Mannanam seeking his blessings on the eve of his canonization at the Vatican on November 23.
A procession was taken out to the tomb of Fr Chavara by thousands of students of K.E.School, Mannanam, on Friday morning. A holy mass was held at the church at 11 am.
Various functions are slated to be held on Saturday at St Joseph’s Church. Mass will be celebrated at 6 am, 8 am, 9 am, 11 am and 4.30 pm. A candlelight procession will also be taken out in the evening, in which thousands of devotees are expected to participate.
Meanwhile, a 20-member team comprising Maria Rose Jose, a 10-year-old girl whose squint was apparently corrected through the family’s prayers to Fr Chavara Kuriakose Elias, left for the Vatican on Friday morning. The team was led by Father James Madathilkandam.
