Naidu pushes for special category status for state in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday met a host of Union ministers, including Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, demanding that the Centre fulfil all promises made to the state during the bifurcation, including according special category status for AP and the multipurpose Polavaram project.
Mr Naidu was in the national capital to participate in a conference organised by the water resources ministry.
He also announced that his government intended to complete the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project within the next four years, adding that issues of drought in the Rayalaseema region would be addressed by interlinking the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
During his meeting with Mr Jaitley, Mr Naidu raised the demand of special category status for Andhra Pradesh and fulfillment of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014.
Sources said Mr Naidu asked Mr Jaitley to consider the request at the earliest. A committee comprising a few ministers is looking into the issue of the promises made to the state.
Sources also said that Mr Naidu asked all Union ministers he met during the day to ensure that the promises made to AP during the time of passage of the Act in February were fulfilled.
