Andhra Pradesh to soon get Marine University
Machilipatnam: A Marine University will be soon opened in Andhra Pradesh, Minister for Excise and BC Welfare K Ravindra said.
Speaking on the occasion of World Fisheries Day on Friday, Ravindra said the state would get a Marine University to promote studies in interdisciplinary education in marine science and Fisheries.
He said at present Marines export stand at Rs 17,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh and now the government is trying to raise it to Rs 75,000 crores.
The minister also said that the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for fishermen housing scheme besides the state government sanctioning Rs 1.5 lakh for construction of new houses under the Model Fishermen Village Scheme.
Fisheries Department Officials and Fishermen Co-operative Society members attended the event.
